An official review has described the condition and suitability of Carolside Primary School in Clarkston as "poor".
The annual Scottish Government "School Estate Statistics" for 2022 grades the condition and suitability of primary and secondary schools as either "good", "satisfactory", "poor" or "bad".
To be rated "poor" for condition, the state of a school's fabric must be displaying major deficiencies and not be operating satisfactorily.
The suitability measure is based on whether a school building and it’s grounds offer an environment that supports quality learning and teaching with a poor rating awarded if major problems are found.
Carolside Primary received the second worst rating for condition during the last formal survey to be conducted in 2020 and the school's ranking is still registered as poor in the recently released annual School Estate Statistics.
Carolside was last assessed for suitability in 2019 and retains the poor rating in the latest publication.
Local MSP, Jackson Carlaw has said it is a serious concern that the school was found to be poor on both measurements in recent years and he has written to the council's Director of Education on the matter.
The latest "School Estate Statistics" was published in early September.
Scottish Conservative MSP for Eastwood, Jackson Carlaw said:
"I very much share the same concern I know will be held by the council that the School Estate Statistics continues to record the condition and suitability of Carolside Primary in my constituency as poor.
“No child should have to spend part or all of their primary education at a school that is recorded as having such major problems and it is important that there is a concerted attempt to address the issues at hand.
“I have made representation to the council to ask that officials set out what efforts have been pursued in the period since the last surveys to try and tackle the deficiencies that were identified.
“Clearly, it would be a major disappointment if Carolside Primary was to remain in the poor category for condition and suitability by the time of the next formal surveys and I hope that such a scenario can be avoided.”
