East Renfrewshire Council have outlined a further programme of proposed repair work for a range of local roads following representations from Jackson Carlaw MSP.
The Eastwood MSP raised the poor condition of a number of local roads with the council after concerned constituents contacted him over their existing state.
In response to Mr Carlaw's enquiry, the council advised that roads including Alloway Drive, Mearns Road from Hillview Drive to Clarkston Toll and the section of Greenwood Road between Buccleuch Aveue and Richmond Avenue in Clarkston had been added to the local authority's draft repairs programme for the 2020/ 21 financial year.
The council also confirmed that the section of Broompark Drive from Sandringham Avenue to Lochbroom Road is set to undergo resurfacing work as early as this March.
The other roads that the council intends to repair in Newton Mearns over the next financial year are Ayr Road, Broomfield Avenue, Broomvale Drive, Doune Crescent, Sandringham Avenue, Turnberry Drive, Humbie Road, Eaglesham Road, Meadowhill, Teawell Road, Warnock Road, and Douglas Drive.
The local authority's finalised programme of road repair works for the next financial year will be confirmed in the coming weeks as part of East Renfrewshire Council's annual budget setting process.
Jackson Carlaw MSP for Eastwood said:
"The surfaces of many roads across Eastwood are in a dire state and they have been left in such condition for a long period of time.
"Potholes, uneven surfaces, ruts and cracks remain a huge problem for a very significant number of local roads.
"It is welcome that in response to my recent representations, the council have confirmed their intention to carry out repair work on roads such as Alloway Drive, the section of Mearns Road from Hillview Drive to Clarkston Toll and part of Greenwood Road in the next financial year.
"Broompark Drive is in extremely bad condition and it is essential that the proposed resurfacing works for March 2020 go ahead as planned.
"The condition of local roads is rightly a major concern throughout Eastwood and I will continue to support the efforts of constituents to secure appropriate carriageway repairs.”
