Local MSP, Jackson Carlaw has posed in pink at the Scottish Parliament with other party leaders to promote Breast Cancer Now's annual flagship fundraiser wear it pink, which is to take place on Friday 18th October.
Back for its 18th year, the fundraiser calls on people from all across the UK to add a dash of pink to their day-to-day outfits and to make a much-needed donation to assist with Breast Cancer Now's vitally important work and research to stop the illness taking the lives of our loved ones.
Since launching in 2002, wear it pink has raised over £33 million, helping to make possible life-saving breast cancer research and life changing support for those who have been diagnosed with the disease.
Published data shows that for the Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board area, which covers Eastwood, an average of 979 women developed breast cancer per year between 2012-2016. This equates to 170.8 per 100,000 women compared with an average of 167 per 100,000 women across Scotland.
Over the same period, an average of 206 women per annum sadly lost their lives because of breast cancer in Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
By promoting wear it pink in advance at Holyrood, Mr Carlaw is encouraging people living in his Eastwood constituency to show their support for the fundraiser by making a donation to the charity and to add a splash of pink to their usual clothing on 18th October.
Jackson Carlaw MSP for Eastwood and Leader of the Scottish Conservatives said:
"I'm delighted to once again support wear it pink, which brings together people from across Scotland, in their workplaces, schools and communities, to support Breast Cancer Now's vital research and support services.
"Eastwood's health board region of Greater Glasgow and Clyde has a higher than average number of women developing breast cancer on a yearly basis compared with Scotland as a whole and I would urge constituents living in the local area to join with me by wearing it pink on Friday 18th October.
"Together, we will stop breast cancer taking the lives of those we love."
