Eastwood MSP, Jackson Carlaw and East Renfrewshire, MP Paul Masterton have congratulated local resident, Elaine Holmes on winning the Amazing Lifetime Inspiration Award at the No.1 Amazing Women Awards in Glasgow.
Elaine, who lives in Newton Mearns, was jointly awarded the top prize at the event alongside Renfrew based, Olive McIlroy who both founded the Scottish Mesh Survivors campaign group.
The local MSP and MP have praised Elaine for her heroic efforts in leading the Scottish Mesh Survivors and for fighting to ensure justice for all of the women who have suffered the devastating consequences of mesh.
Mr Carlaw and Mr Masterton attended the event in support of constituent Elaine and were seated at the same table for the awards ceremony. The MSP and MP have submitted motions at Holyrood and Westminster so that both parliaments formally commend the achievement.
Surgical vaginal mesh implants have been used to treat conditions Stress Urinary Incontinence and Pelvic Organ Prolapse. Many women in Scotland are known to have suffered life changing injuries after undergoing mesh surgery and last September, an immediate halt to mesh procedures was announced at the Scottish Parliament by the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport.
Jackson Carlaw MSP for Eastwood said:
“From the moment I first met Elaine, she has shown an unshakeable determination to achieve justice for all of the women who have undergone a damaging mesh procedure and provided exceptional leadership throughout.
“Elaine is a credit to Eastwood and I can’t think of anyone who is more deserving of this award.”
Paul Masterton MP for East Renfrewshire stated:
“Since my election in June 2017, the issue of faulty mesh implants has been one of the major issues I have pursued at Westminster.
“I was delighted to be there in person to witness Elaine win the Amazing Lifetime Inspiration Award. It is well deserved recognition of everything that she has achieved so far.”
Elaine Holmes added:
“As a constituent of Jackson and Paul, my husband Jeff and I cannot thank them enough for their empathy and support for mesh victims everywhere.”
