I was most pleased to see so many people signing our petition on Saturday morning saying NO to the divisions of another Independence Referendum. The decision taken by voters in 2014 was clear and decisive and Nicola Sturgeon must honour her commitment of that referendum being "once in a generation". The people of Clarkston were very clear on Saturday. No means No.
If you want to join us in opposing a second referendum, then sign the Scottish Conservatives petition.
Press Release below.
Eastwood voters should not be sacrificed for Sturgeon's independence obsession
On the second anniversary of Scotland’s historic independence referendum on 18 September 2016 Nicola Sturgeon said that independence "transcends" Brexit, oil and the economy.
Sturgeon said that "oil, national wealth and balance sheets" are less important than Scotland being independent.
Her remarks came in an opinion piece in the Sunday Herald.
East Renfrewshire, of which Eastwood is a significant constituent part, voted 63.2% on a 90.4% turnout to reaffirm Scotland’s partnership with the rest of our United Kingdom.
Responding to Sturgeon's remarks Eastwood MSP Jackson Carlaw said:
"The mask is slipping as Sturgeon shows that she has no real concern for the damage that independence would do to the lives of those living and working in Scotland.
"To want independence without any regard to Scotland’s national wealth is pure political sadomasochism.
"Eastwood voted overwhelming to reaffirm Scotland’s partnership with the rest of our United Kingdom - a partnership which brings huge tangible benefits into the lives of all here in Eastwood.
"That vote must be respected without the threat and indulgence of neverendum.
"It is time all local elected members put the interests of their constituents first and not the narrow nationalism of their Party."
