It was great to visit the East Ren Centre last week and meet members of the local Muslim Community. They have been working hard to renovate the property to properly cater to the religious needs of the local Muslim community. I look forward to see what the finished centre will look like but I am in no doubt that it will be spectacular. The volunteers are a testament to the centre and it was a pleasure to meet some of them. I was very impressed with what they are doing with the centre and as such I submitted the following motion to congratulate their success.
That the Parliament welcomes the efforts of the East Ren Centre, which was purchased by the local Muslim community in 2011, to engage with all members of the Eastwood community, irrespective of religious faith, including those with no religious affiliation; acknowledges the vast range of activities that the centre offers in order to achieve this goal, such as coffee mornings, youth gatherings and weekly clubs; supports its recent planning application, which, if successful, will allow it to carry out its religious and community-based activities on a permanent basis; understands that if planning permission is granted, the East Ren Centre will be permitted to undertake a large-scale renovation of the property, which will further aid its endeavour to organise interfaith activities for the benefit of the local Muslim and wider communities as a whole.
