The Scottish Government's own figures have shown that there remains £30 million of outstanding Business Rate appeals in East Renfrewshire.
For the 2017 - 2018 Fourth Quarter the Valuation Joint Board for Renfrewshire, which takes in East Renfrewshire, only managed to resolve 2 cases out of 563 appeals lodged following the 2017 revaluation of Business Rates.
This means 99.6% of appeals remain outstanding causing continued concern for small businesses and the local high street.
Commenting Eastwood MSP, Jackson Carlaw said:
“Delayed decisions on business rates appeals are undermining Eastwood's high streets and small businesses.
“The situation is deteriorating fast with too many businesses waiting too long for a decision on huge business rates bills, causing uncertainty and cash flow issues.
“It is abundantly clear, the SNP is only interested in taxing businesses and is actively contributing to the steep decline of our retail businesses and high streets.
East Renfrewshire MP, Paul Masterton added:
“The Scottish Conservatives recognise the importance of a vibrant high street and the vital role it plays in our communities.
“The SNP must speed up business rates appeals, support Scottish small businesses and work with them to secure a vibrant future.”
