Eastwood MSP, Jackson Carlaw has submitted a Scottish Parliament motion in recognition of Maidenhill Primary School and Nursery being named as one of this year's winners at Scotland's national architecture awards.
The Newton Mearns Primary School and Nursery is one of fourteen buildings to receive the prize handed out by the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) for 2021.
In the list of winners for this year's award, the RIAS has praised the school for having a range of spaces that support pupils' learning and the design of the central atrium within the building.
The RIAS description of the school's architecture also notes that within the building, a comforting background to learning has been established though a restrained palette of colours and the design of the surrounding landscape also provides pupils with space to explore.
To determine the awarding of this prize, an expert jury undertakes an assessment of the buildings and the list of winners for 2021 includes education and healthcare facilities, housing developments and a new sports centre.
Jackson Carlaw MSP for Eastwood said:
"It's excellent news that Maidenhill Primary School and Nursery has been recognised for the design of the building by receiving this well-deserved prize.
"The description of Maidenhill in the list of winners makes clear that the particular design of the building supports the education of young people and receiving this award is a strong endorsement that the layout of school can have a positive impact on learning.
"I was delighted to submit a parliamentary motion at Holyrood to draw wider attention to the achievement and the award-winning architecture of the school and nursery."
