Next week at Holyrood, MSP's will remember the millions of Jewish people whose lives were taken in the Holocaust between 1941 and 1945.
Eastwood MSP, Jackson Carlaw has secured a members business debate for Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) to take place on Wednesday 29th January and just days after the official event.
Holocaust Memorial Day is held each year on 27th January.
During the Holocaust, 6 million Jewish men, women and children were murdered in concentration and death camps, mass shootings and ghettos.
East year, Holocaust Memorial Day has a specific theme and this year, it is "For a Better Future."
To work towards a better future, there are many ways people can make a positive contribution towards achieving this aim such as tackling prejudice and challenging Holocaust denial.
Holocaust Memorial Day 2025 marks both the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau and 30 years since the genocide in Bosnia.
Scottish Conservative MSP for Eastwood, Jackson Carlaw said:
"Scotland's largest Jewish population is resident in my Eastwood constituency.
"Having lived in Eastwood for the vast majority of my life and grown up with the Jewish community, I understand just how integral the annual Holocaust Memorial Day is for challenging Antisemitism.
"There is no greater lesson in history than the Holocaust to show what the end result of Antisemitism can be if left unchallenged anywhere in the world and tackling discrimination against Jewish people is a vital obligation that must never be ignored.
"Holocaust Memorial Day is a key opportunity in the annual calendar to reinforce that all forms of prejudice must be strongly challenged and to redouble our efforts to root out discriminatory behaviours and attitudes whenever they arise.
"This year's theme for Holocaust Memorial Day is For a Better Future and all of us can play our part in taking important steps in this direction.
"The motion I submitted has secured widespread cross-party support and I look forward to opening the members business proceedings in parliament."
