A survey issued to residents in Maidenhill by a local MSP has found that a large number of people living within the development have experienced anti-social behaviour.
This news comes after a second incident where the school and nursery grounds at Maidenhill were set on fire within recent months.
In early July, Eastwood MSP Jackson Carlaw delivered a questionnaire to households in Maidenhill and to find out the experiences of residents on a range of local issues.
One of the questions in the survey asked local people if they had experienced anti-social behaviour within the development.
Of 122 completed surveys, 118 participants answered the anti-social behaviour question and 80 responded yes, 36 no and 2 don’t know.
In percentage terms, this equates to 68 percent yes, 30 percent no and 2 percent don’t’ know of survey participants who provided a response to the question.
Upon learning of the second incident at the school and nursery grounds, Mr Carlaw immediately contacted the local police to ask that officers take the strongest possible approach to tackling the anti-social behaviour.
Local officers responded to advise that specialist resources had been secured from the police Violence and Reduction Unit to help target the anti-social behaviour.
In a later update, the police confirmed that two people had now been charged for the most recent incident.
Scottish Conservative MSP for Eastwood, Jackson Carlaw said:
“The results of my survey demonstrates that a significant number of people at Maidenhill have experienced anti-social behaviour and this is a cause of major concern.
“Maidenhill is a fantastic development and I am dismayed at the ongoing reports of shameful anti-social incidents.
“The school and nursery site has now been targeted on two recent occasions and there can be no place for mindless vandalism in local communities.
“From constituents who have contacted me directly, it is clear that the continuing anti-social behaviour is terrifying residents including young families and the reported incidents are nothing short of a disgrace.
“It is important that there is a tough approach towards tackling the anti-social behaviour and to ensure local people can feel safe at home in Maidenhill.”
