Local MSP, Jackson Carlaw has hit out at anti-social behaviour taking place at the Maidenhill residential development in Newton Mearns.
In recent weeks, concerned constituents have contacted the Eastwood MSP to report that there was a break-in at the nursery, the school grounds and public areas within the development had been set on fire and trees, bushes and shrubs were damaged.
Mr Carlaw has also been informed that youths harassing and behaving in an inappropriate manner towards local people when simply going about their day-to-day lives is a continuing problem within the development.
The MSP raised the reports of unacceptable behaviour with the local police and asked that officers do everything possible to support his constituents.
Police confirmed that two youths had been arrested for incidents in the area, Maidenhill was included in plans for additional patrols and officers had met in person with some residents.
Police also confirmed that ongoing joint working was taking place with the East Renfrewshire CCTV team, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, community wardens and social work to identify those who have been causing the issues and put mitigation measures into effect.
Maidenhill Primary School and Nursery is located at the centre of the development.
Scottish Conservative MSP for Eastwood, Jackson Carlaw said:
“I am deeply concerned to be made aware of reports that local residents at Maidenhill have been terrorised through unacceptable and shameful incidents.
“It is a complete disgrace that the school grounds were set on fire and behaviour of this nature in the local area must not be tolerated.
“Upon learning of the disturbances, I contacted senior local police officials to highlight the need for my constituents to be protected from intimidating and threatening behaviour.
“The police responded to confirm the actions pursued by officers and the engagement with stakeholders to support residents.
“My constituents should be able to enjoy their home lives without experiencing unacceptable incidents and it is important that all potential measures to address the anti-social behaviour at Maidenhill are considered.”
