Long-awaited permanent repairs for two Eastwood residential streets have been completed after concerns were raised by the local MSP about their condition.
A programme of resurfacing work took place on a section of Beech Avenue in Newton Mearns from 21st November to 30th November and at Gloucester Avenue in Clarkston between 28th November and 2nd December.
The part of Beech Avenue from Firwood Road to Shaw Road was resurfaced. Repair works at Beech Avenue in the last financial year only covered the top section of the road.
Eastwood MSP, Jackson Carlaw had contacted East Renfrewshire Council’s Environment Service to highlight concerns brought to his attention by local residents about the sub-optimal state of both roads and to ask that the local authority organise appropriate permanent repair work.
The correspondence Mr Carlaw received about the roads advised that both were in a state of disrepair and were populated by a large number of potholes.
In March, it was confirmed that the further section of Beech Avenue and Gloucester Avenue had been included in the council’s carriageway resurfacing programme for the 2022/23 financial year.
Two other roads where Mr Carlaw had called for repairs in Waterfoot’s Brackenrig Crescent and Giffnock’s Ailsa Drive were resurfaced earlier in the financial year.
Scottish Conservatives MSP for Eastwood, Jackson Carlaw said:
“The general condition of Eastwood’s road infrastructure has been substandard for a very long period and it remains one of the most frequent local concerns that is raised with me by constituents.
“It is welcome that much-needed resurfacing work for Beech Avenue and Gloucester Avenue was agreed and has now been completed.
“It is vital that badly damaged local roads can be repaired at the earliest possible opportunity and it’s great to see the surfaces at Beech Avenue and Gloucester Avenue restored to an acceptable condition.”
