Concerns about a leadership shortage in Eastwood scouting groups have been raised with the Chief Scout by local MSP Jackson Carlaw.
This follows the tabling of a Scottish Parliament motion to alert the Parliament to the leadership shortage and the impact this is having on Scout groups locally.
Mr Carlaw was alerted to the shortage by a local Scout leader and remains concerned that a short term lack of leadership could cause young people in Eastwood to lose out on long term involvement with the Scouts.
The Scouts' motto is 'Be Prepared' and Mr Carlaw is calling on the Chief Scout to take action to ensure Eastwood scouting groups are now prepared for the future.
Commenting Eastwood MSP, Jackson Carlaw said:
“The Scouts plays a huge part in many young peoples' lives and this leadership shortage sadly threatens the ability of further youngsters to become involved with the Scouts.
"I trust that the Chief Scout will now work with local groups to bring more people into leadership roles so that their motto of 'Be Prepared' is honoured for future generations of Eastwood Scouts."
Scottish Parliament motion as referred to:
Motion S5M-10102: Jackson Carlaw, Eastwood, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party, Date Lodged: 25/01/2018 Scouts' Leadership Shortage
That the Parliament notes with concern reports of a leadership shortage among Eastwood Scout groups; understands that the 171st Glasgow (Whitecraigs), 21st Glasgow (Clarkston), 35th Glasgow (Newton Mearns), and 28th Glasgow (Giffnock) Scout Groups all have oversubscribed waiting lists and a leadership shortage; believes that the Scouts can play a significant part in the development of young people in Eastwood, and calls on the Scouting leadership to take positive action to ensure its 'Be Prepared' motto is truly honoured for eager future Scouts.
