A local MSP is calling for night bus services in his constituency to be retained.
Jackson Carlaw wrote to the Managing Director of First Glasgow to express his frustration that the night bus services for Eastwood are to be cancelled and requesting a reversal of this decision.
First Bus announced that the 11-night bus routes the company operates are to be withdrawn including the N38 and N6 (south) services in Eastwood.
The N38 has stops at Giffnock Station, Eastwood Toll, Mearns Cross and Greenfarm Road.
The N6 (south) service provides transport to Clarkston Toll.
The routes were initially set to be discontinued from 31st July but the company has now provided a reprieve for the services at least until 20th August.
First Glasgow’s Managing Director has confirmed the extension with Mr Carlaw and noted that the delay is to provide other stakeholders with the opportunity to review transport options.
The Managing Director has also informed Mr Carlaw that First Glasgow is keeping an “open mind” in relation to future options with stakeholders if passenger and driver numbers could be increased.
First Bus previously removed it’s night bus services during the pandemic before they were brought back in June 2022.
Scottish Conservative MSP for Eastwood, Jackson Carlaw said:
“The announcement from First Glasgow that the night bus routes are to be cancelled, just over a year after they were reinstated, is another major blow to bus service provision in Eastwood.
“I have consistently raised concerns with the company over bus service cuts in the constituency including the removal of Polnoon Street and Montgomery Street from the 4A, the 4A reducing from a twice to a once hourly off-peak service and the removal of the 404 for pupils at Williamwood High.
“It is disappointing that the constituency is included in another major package of cuts from First Glasgow and the cumulative impact of removing the night bus routes would mean a further reduction of eight services in the local area.
“It is vital that night bus services for Giffnock, Newton Mearns and Clarkston can be maintained.”
